Al Ittihad vs Al Nassr: match preview
Al Ittihad
Coached by former Tottenham Hotspur boss Nuno Espírito Santo, Al Ittihad are chasing the ninth Saudi title in their history, and their first since 2009.In the Saudi Pro League, the Tigers have lost just once all season, are unbeaten in 10, and are on a run of six straight clean sheets. However, after being held by Al Raed two weeks ago, the Jeddah side now trail Al Nassr by two points.
Al Ittihad’s recent form against the Knights of Najd will offer them major encouragement, though: they’ve won six and drawn four of the teams’ last 10 meetings, last losing to their title rivals back in 2018.
Most recently, Nuno’s men were 3-1 winners over Al Nassr in the Saudi Super Cup semi-finals in January, before lifting the trophy with a 2-0 final victory over Al Fayha.
Al Nassr
Led by ex-Roma coach Rudi García, Al Nassr are bidding to lift the Saudi championship for the first time since 2019, and for the 10th time in their history.
January’s Super Cup loss to Al Ittihad remains their only defeat since Ronaldo joined at the end of December; in the league, the Riyadh club have won five and drawn one with the Portugal captain in their attack. It’s a sequence of results that has extended Al Nassr’s unbeaten top-flight streak to 17 matches.
Ronaldo has netted eight goals in his six league appearances for the club - including all four in a thrashing of Al Wehda at the start of February.
